Accounting
Operate the ASC 340-40 commission accounting workflow
Quota Queue Pro provides a contract-acquisition-cost subledger that preserves approved statement evidence, requires explicit accounting judgments, builds exact schedules and balanced journals, and blocks period close while review or reconciliation exceptions remain.

Before you begin
- An active Pro workspace
- Approved and locked commission statement evidence
- A customer-approved capitalization policy and chart-of-accounts mapping
Worked example
Amortize one approved acquisition commission
Illustrative Northstar Software workspace. The people and transactions are fictional; the workflow and product UI are real.
| Evidence | Treatment | Result |
|---|---|---|
| $12,000 approved new-business commission | Capitalize over 12 months | $12,000 deferred asset and $1,000 monthly schedule |
| First monthly posting | Debit commission expense; credit deferred commission asset | $11,000 remaining deferred balance |
Result: The acquisition and amortization batches balance, the schedule ties to the asset, and the roll-forward closes without a difference.
Establish the evidence and policy boundary
Statement locking freezes policy-neutral line-item evidence, and approval promotes that frozen version into accounting source events. Publish a policy only after Finance has selected eligible deal types, practical-expedient treatment, benefit periods, and account mappings.
Unknown facts and unsupported adjustments enter review; Quota Queue does not infer an accounting conclusion.
Classify and post
- 1
Backfill approved history
Promote eligible historical statement snapshots in bounded, idempotent batches.
- 2
Resolve review items
Record capitalize, expense, or exclude decisions with the actor, rationale, and benefit period where applicable.
- 3
Generate the ledger
Create acquisition journals, deferred assets, and exact monthly amortization schedules under the published policy.
- 4
Post the period
Post scheduled amortization and any explicit balanced adjustment, reversal, or impairment evidence.
Reconcile, close, and export
- Review opening balance, capitalizations, amortization, impairments, adjustments, and ending balance
- Resolve review items, unposted amortization, journal imbalance, and roll-forward differences before close
- Record the close actor and retain a reason for any later reopen
- Generate generic, QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Xero, or audit-package files
- Validate provider mappings before import; exports do not post directly to an ERP
Scope
The workspace addresses incremental contract-acquisition-cost accounting commonly discussed alongside ASC 606. It is not a complete revenue-recognition ledger, accounting advice, a compliance certification, or an auditor opinion. Customers retain responsibility for policy judgments and downstream mappings.

Expected result
Every posted amount traces to approved statement evidence and an explicit policy or review decision; schedules equal their assets, journals balance, the roll-forward reconciles, and the period can close.

Why is period close blocked?
Review unresolved source events, unposted amortization, journal imbalance, and roll-forward differences. The close action intentionally fails until every accounting invariant reconciles.
Does the QuickBooks or NetSuite format post automatically?
No. Accounting exports are controlled file handoffs. Validate the customer-specific chart-of-accounts and import mapping in the destination system.
